 FAQs

  • Therapy is your time, where you are allowed to show up authentically and talk through your life experiences and work through them with a trained professional. Therapy varies based on individual needs and the specific approach of the therapist.

  • Confidentiality: Therapists are bound by confidentiality, meaning they will not share the details of your sessions with others unless there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. This creates a safe and private space for you to discuss your thoughts and feelings.

Establishing Goals: In the initial sessions, your therapist will work with you to identify the goals you want to achieve through therapy. These goals could be specific, such as overcoming a phobia, or more general, like improving overall well-being.

Building a Relationship: A strong therapeutic relationship is crucial for the success of therapy. You should feel comfortable and safe discussing your thoughts and feelings with your therapist. Trust and openness are essential.

Exploration and Reflection: Therapy often involves exploring and reflecting on your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This process can help you gain insight into your concerns, identify patterns, and develop coping strategies.

Learning Coping Skills: Therapists often teach practical coping skills to help you manage stress, anxiety, or other challenges. These skills might include mindfulness techniques, communication strategies, or behavior modification.

Challenges and Growth: Therapy may bring up challenging emotions or thoughts as you address underlying issues. This is a normal part of the process, and with the support of your therapist, you can work through these challenges to facilitate personal growth.

Homework or Practice: Depending on the therapeutic approach, your therapist may suggest activities or exercises for you to do outside of sessions. This could involve keeping a journal, practicing new communication skills, or engaging in activities that promote well-being.

Regular Sessions: Therapy typically involves regular sessions, whether weekly, bi-weekly, or at another frequency agreed upon with your therapist. Consistency in attendance helps build momentum and progress.

Remember that therapy is a collaborative process, and your active participation is crucial. It's okay to communicate your expectations and concerns with your therapist to ensure you are on the same page and working towards your goals. If at any point you feel uncomfortable or unsure about the progress, it's important to discuss these feelings with your therapist.

  • Research has shown that specific types of therapy work better for specific issues. Your therapist will be able to describe one or more recommended therapies for your concerns and speak to their effectiveness as you co-develop your treatment plan.

  • The choice between in-person and telehealth (remote or online) therapy sessions depends on various factors, and ultimately it comes down to your personal preferences, comfort level, and practical considerations. Here are some factors to consider when making this decision:

    In-Person Sessions:

Environmental Factors: Being physically present in a therapy office can create a designated and confidential space for discussing personal matters without the potential distractions of home or other surroundings.

Non-Verbal Cues: In-person sessions provide the opportunity for therapists to pick up on non-verbal cues, such as body language and facial expressions, which can be important in understanding and addressing your concerns.

Technology Limitations: In-person sessions avoid potential technical issues or challenges that may arise during online sessions, such as poor internet connections or technology glitches.

    Telehealth Sessions:

Convenience: Telehealth sessions offer the convenience of attending therapy from the comfort of your own home or any location with privacy. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with busy schedules, mobility issues, or those who live in remote areas.

Flexibility: Online therapy eliminates the need for travel time, allowing for more flexibility in scheduling appointments. It may also be easier to find a therapist who specializes in your specific needs if geography is not a limiting factor.

Safety and Health Concerns: During times of health crises or when facing personal health concerns, telehealth provides a safer option by reducing the risk of exposure to illnesses.

Access to Specialized Therapists: Telehealth may provide access to therapists who specialize in certain areas but may not be geographically close to you. This can be especially relevant if you have specific needs or are seeking a therapist with particular expertise.

  • Intake sessions are 60 minutes in duration because they include historical information-gathering, and follow-up sessions are 50 minutes in length.

  • It’s quite common for medications to be used along with psychotherapy, as there’s considerable evidence this combination can be quite effective. We have partners that we work closely with that we can refer you to who can conduct a medication evaluation and determine if a prescription would be helpful. Our partners are also able to provide evaluation and medication, as needed, for general medical conditions that are non-psychiatric in nature.

  • We currently are paneled with some major insurance companies and receive payment and are paid by them directly.

We also accept non-insurance payments via debit/credit card payments through our online patient portal.
